Safeguarding
At Cranbrook Primary School we want all our children, irrelevant of their context, to feel safe, secure and happy, so that they can voice their feelings and have the resilience to overcome barriers to their learning and become confident, successful and responsible citizens.
Safeguarding our children from harm is at the core of everything we do, and covers the following areas:
-
Site security
-
Health and safety
-
First aid and medical care plans
-
Meeting the needs of vulnerable pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, the disadvantaged, looked after pupils and those who are on a child protection or child in need plan
-
Behaviour management, support and monitoring, including the work and support of the positive mental health team
-
Implementation of key policies and monitoring their impact
-
Analysis of behaviour and incidents logs in order to plan and execute actions to address issues arising
-
Raising awareness of the school’s context and the local agenda in order to prepare our children for their time beyond the school and to work in partnership with parents, carers and other agencies
-
Record keeping and sharing information
-
Monitoring attendance and following through with actions as necessary
-
Reporting to parents and governors
Our work with children is varied and includes:
-
Class lessons, especially those relating to Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, religious education, philosophy for children, online safety, bullying, racism and other forms of discrimination
-
Developing strategies to be self-aware and maintain positive mental and physical health is also supported through lessons, such as mindfulness, yoga, healthy eating and growth mindset.
-
Discussions in assemblies and in classes about how to keep ourselves safe
-
Workshops by the NSPCC, ChildLine, the LA Prevent Officer, Road Safety Team and the Police Community Support Officer sessions on gangs and knife crime etc.
-
Raising awareness of school and local contextual safeguarding, so that staff and parents understand the context within which we are working.
We achieve this by ensuring that staff are appropriately trained at all levels and are equipped to respond to children’s needs. Audits are carried out to monitor how effective our practice is and where we need to improve.
