Cranbrook Primary School is a four form entry school with a nursery. The school opened in September 2007 in temporary accommodation. The nursery takes up to 52 pupils each morning and afternoon session.​

Job Title         : Multi-skilled Handyperson - Part-time
Closing date  : 09:00am on Monday 2nd December 2024

Salary           :  £19,747 – £21,216 (depending on experience) 

Pay Scale      : LBR3 Spine Point 5-6/LBR4 Spine Point 7-10 (this could increase as the role is currently being evaluated)

​​Hours: - Monday to Friday: 07:30am – 12.30pm and ideally with some flexibility to work longer hours to cover absent colleagues

Cranbrook is a large school serving a diverse local community. You will be joining our already well-established, experienced and friendly team.


We are looking for a skilled and dependable Handyperson to join our team at Cranbrook Primary School. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the school’s grounds, buildings, and facilities. The ideal candidate will have a diverse skill set, including plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical knowledge, with experience in handling minor electrical tasks. You should be resourceful, using existing materials creatively to repair and create as needed, and have experience assembling and repairing equipment and furniture. Strong time management and the ability to prioritise tasks are essential to ensure all work is completed efficiently and on time.


Key Responsibilities:
•    Perform basic electrical tasks, including replacing bulbs, light fixtures, and outlets.
•    Conduct general building maintenance, including plumbing and carpentry tasks.
•    Assemble and repair flat-pack furniture and equipment.
•    Perform routine checks to ensure the school building and grounds are safe and secure
•    Carry out repairs and maintenance on school equipment, furniture, and fixtures.
•    Assist with the upkeep of outdoor spaces, including grounds maintenance.
•    Respond to urgent repair requests and carry out necessary repairs in a timely manner.
•    Monitor and ensure compliance with health and safety standards across the site.
•    Keep accurate records of maintenance work and repairs carried out.
•    Effectively manage your own time, prioritising tasks and ensuring all work is completed in a timely manner.

 

Key Requirements:
•    Proven experience as a Handyperson, with strong skills in plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance.
•    Basic knowledge of electrical work and safety procedures
•    Ability to assemble furniture and equipment from flat packs.
•    Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform repairs efficiently.
•    Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
•    Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
•    A proactive approach to ensuring the school building and grounds remain in excellent condition.
•    Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
•    Good communication skills and ability to liaise with staff and contractors.
•    Previous experience in a school or similar environment is desirable but not essential.
